04/18/2026 PLPOA Board Meeting

Call to Order

  • Beth Bush called the meeting to order at 10:00.

  • Board members present:  Beth Bush, John Hedstrom, Jim Henderson, Ed Hummelt, Fred Koch, Jim Nagle, Jeff Price, Julie Verhaalen, Beth Wells.

March Meeting Minutes

  • March meeting minutes were approved as amended.

Treasurer’s Report

  • Jim Henderson gave a detailed topline.

  • Financials are essentially on-track with little new news to report.

  • We are remaining in a liquid state in expectation of upcoming potential expenses.

Lake Health

  • Fred Koch led the discussion.

  • We are waiting for the DASH permit from DNR.

  • DASH treatment will be done close to Memorial Day.

  • DASH treatment is estimated to be  $8000 for 3 days.

  • If more days of treatment are needed, and it is judged that the patches of milfoil are dense enough that DASH treatments can be done efficiently, we will add required days. (DASH treatment in sparse areas is inefficient and not cost effective.)

  • Fred Koch and Beth Bush will be the decision makers on further days of DASH.

  • We have sufficient funds to cover additional DASH treatment days.

  • Fred Koch will oversee the DASH treatment.

  • The next Lake Health subcommittee meeting will take place after the treatment.

Seagulls

  • Ed Hummelt is compiling information about seagulls and potential issues with overpopulation.

  • Large flock seems to have diminished, likely due to ice on nearby lakes melting.

Ice Out

  • Ice out date was officially determined to be March 30.

Bylaws

  • Julie Verhaalen led a discussion on the revisions to the bylaws.  There was extensive discussion about the proposed changes.

  • Board comments were agreed-upon and finalized.

  • The bylaws will have short summaries of each officer role.

  • We decided to create a “Job Description” document that is separate from the bylaws.

  • The revised bylaws with an accompanying document that summarizes the changes will be distributed with the newsletter.

  • A vote on the revisions will occur at the annual meeting on July 4.

Newsletter

  • Julie Verhaalen is sending an appeal for new members.

  • Fred Koch will write the front page feature

  • Jim Nagle will write the board member perspective article.

  • Articles on the newsletter topics (picnic, July 4 activities, etc.) are due to Julie by May 10.

  • The newsletter will go out mid-May.

Water Testing

  • Secchi testing was first completed on April 8. This will be an ongoing test approx. every 2 weeks.

    • Water is clear. 10.5 feet visibility.

    • The color is blue.

  • Water chemistry testing will be done by UWSP.
